Restorative Approaches are used in schools as a planned response to relationship and/or behaviour difficulties and has been shown to be a more effective response than traditional punishments.
Based on the idea that all members of a community have needs/values which must be met before they can achieve their best, the approach ensures that these needs are addressed and become the responsibility of the entire school community.
Your child may be asked to take part in a Restorative Conversation in School. We use five key questions in these conversations:
Tell me what happened.
How were you feeling at the time?
What were you thinking at the time?
Who has been impacted by what happened?
What do you need to support you moving forward?
The aim of these conversations is to support pupils to take responsibility for their actions and find a way forward with the support of staff in school.
